Between 23A and Blandford Road is the National Physical Laboratory, a vast area of modern two-storey concrete brick and glass buildings and grass. Two older buildings stand in the grounds: a red brick ornate Victorian folly, with a statue set in the wall above the main entrance; and a large Victorian villa of three storeys and basement, with steps to front door and bay windows at basement, ground and first floor levels.
