Son of Mrs Margaret Ward (formerly Self, née Joy)

Brother of Mrs Annie Helen Wells and Mrs Winifred Agnes Russell of Luther Road, Teddington

and step-son of Walter Lewis Ward, ‘Keeper of the Deer’ of Bushy Park, Teddington

Born about September 1897 at Aldeburgh, Suffolk

Employed as a cable joiner living at the Under Keepers Lodge, Bushy Park, Teddington in 1914

Enlisted at Kingston, Surrey on 4th September 1914 aged 16 (with a claimed age of 19 years)

as Private (S/631) with the 8th (Service) Battalion of “The Buffs” (East Kent Regiment)

Reported as ‘missing’ and later presumed killed in action in France on 26th September 1915, aged 17

Listed on the Loos Memorial, Loos-en-Gohelle, Departement du Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France
