Charles Thomas Minnett

Son of Charles Thomas Minnett and Florence Ellen Minnett née Martin.

Born 5th May 1898 at Kingston, Surrey

He was working as a porter when he joined the Royal Navy on 18th May 1915 as Ordinary Seaman (J/39163)

at HMS Pembroke, the shore training establishment at Chatham, Kent. Following just two weeks of induction

and training, on 2nd June 1915 was posted to HMS Raglan. By 1918 he had risen to the rank of Able Seaman.

He was killed in action at sea aboard HMS Raglan during the Battle of Imbros on 20th January 1918, aged 20.


Initially buried with officers and crew of HMS Raglan in the Kusu Bay Cemetery on the island of Imbros, but

following the Armistice in November 1918 he was re-buried at the Lancashire Landing Cemetery on the

Gallipoli Peninsula of Turkey. (Grave Ref.L.41)
