Served as an Able Seaman in Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve and took part in the RNVR “defence of Antwerp” and was captured. He was a Prisoner of War at Doeberitz near Berlin until he escaped and took a RNVR pilots course. He transferred to the RNAS as an Observer attached to HMS Furious.
He was accidently killed while flying as Captain in Royal Air Force at, or near, Dalgety Bay, Fifeshire, Scotland on 29th April 1918, aged 33
Buried at Dunfermline Cemetery, Fifeshire, Scotland (Plot Ed. 2638)
