George Alexander Brown

Born in March 1859

He joined the Army and served for 21 years in the ranks and 3 years as a warrant officer.

He took part in the Sudan (Nile) Expedition of 1884-5, receiving the Egyptian medal with clasp and Khedive's Star. He was also with the Frontier Field Force in the Sudan in 1885-86.

He served in the South African War 1899-1902, and was decorated with the Queen's Medal with three clasps and King's Medal with two clasps and promoted to Lieutenant in 1901 and Captain in 1910.

He retired from the Army but re-enlisted at the start of WW1 and gazetted in September 1914.

He was attached to the London District Staff at Horse Guards, Whitehall, London.

Died of pneumonia at 'Beechcroft', Station Road, Hampton Wick, on 27th May 1916, aged 57

He was given a full military funeral attended by a number senior army officers and members of his family on 31st May 1916

Buried at Teddington Cemetery (Plot Bc Grave 435)
