The route of this road is  somewhat unusual.  Before the Manor was sold Twickenham Road had been part of the main road connecting Kingston and Twickenham, running along Kingston Road, turning up Ferry Road towards the High Street and then turning along the front  of St. Mary’s Church as Twickenham Road.    In 1861 when the Manor was sold a road was cut through Twickenham Road and the portion that curved round to join Kingston Road was called Manor Road until it joined Twickenham Road.    Once the Manor was sold  Twickenham Road began to be developed with a number of Victorian villas, now blocks of flats, with views over the river and development continued.    However in the 1960s Manor Road was blocked off at the point where it crossed Twickenham Road dividing Manor Road in two.  It also reduced that  portion of Twickenham Road  which runs along the front of St. Mary’s Church to where it used to be crossed by Manor Road to a side road, accessible from Ferry Road.
