Notes on Elm Lodge and Victoria House
+
Please see [[Queen's_Road,_Teddington|Queen's Road]] for this property & that of Victoria Lodge.

There are two houses listed in the 1970s Teddington Society survey which, though they used to front on to Queens Road, are now enclosed behind railings within the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and entrance to them is from the rear of the buildings from New Kelvin Avenue.  One of these is a Building of Townscape Merit in the Borough’s list under New Kelvin Avenue and called Elm Lodge and the other in the same list under Queens Road called Victoria Lodge, though the NPL knows it as Victoria House.        Works are being undertaken and they both appear unoccupied.

Elm Lodge is immediately on the right hand side of the entrance to the National Physical Laboratory opposite Park Lane.    It is a 2-storey house, double fronted brick built with ornamental quoins, under slate roof and soffites with decorated brackets, sash windows with ornamental reveals and lintels at first floor and bay windows with similar ornament at ground floor and a projecting porch to the front door.    At the rear there are two dormer windows in the roof together with extensions.    It was acquired by the National Physical Laboratory in July 1919 for £1,150 (From ‘The Development of the NPL site at Teddington 1900-1970’ by G.I. Robinson and H.J. Hadow).

Victoria House, although listed in  Queens Road, is situated next to Elm Lodge and therefore also in New Kelvin Avenue.  It is a 4-storey house, with entrance porch, brick built, with various extensions at rear, undergoing building works, both front and rear.      It was acquired by the National Physical Laboratory in October 1920 for £3,050  (From ‘The Development of the NPL site at Teddington 1900-1970’ by G.I. Robinson and H.J. Hadow).
