"Oak Cottage", 159 High Street

Road: High Street, Teddington

Property: 159, "Oak Cottage"

Grade II (1973)

Some believe this to be the oldest house in Teddington dating from around the late 16th or early 17th century, but there does not appear to be firm evidence of any 16th century element. In 1800 there was a house, barn and carpenter's shop on the site belonging to the lord of the manor. The property has certainly been extended over the years including to the rear and recently modernised. The weatherboarding mention in the listing is to the rear.

The listing description is:

"Probably C18. Stucco and weatherboarded, timber framed with steeply pitched, pantile roof and central chimney-stack. 2-story cottage, 2 bays wide, the lower windows being canted bays with casements. Upper sash windows with margins run up into the overhanging eaves."
