THE GROVE ESTATE
The estate comprises The Grove, Grove Terrace and Grove Gardens surrounding a small park called Grove Gardens, built on the site of the 18th Century house called The Grove. The house was demolished in 1920 and the land was acquired by Royal Dutch Shell Oil Co. who erected The Grove and Grove Terrace using Dutch architecture and built by Gazes Ltd. The company later sold the park to Twickenham Borough Council and the rest of the estate to private owners.
The Grove Estate also included 58-84 Cambridge Road, then numbered 1-14 Grove Estate. The Grove excluding Nos. 30-45 is covered by Conservation Area No 26, together with Grove Terrace and Grove Gardens.

Attached to the above report is a detailed description of the proposed buildings, by the St Helen’s Housing Company Limited, from which are extracted the following details:
The houses are of two main types, all 2-storeys high, those having a large dining room and small parlour and those having a medium sized dining room with a large sitting room, some with three and some with four bedrooms. The windows of all sitting rooms and bedrooms will be of the double hung sash type. Outside shutters will be fitted to windows exposed to the southern sun. Each house has apart from the public gardens an enclosed garden of its own, both at the front and back, varying in size. The front gardens will be enclosed by posts and chains. The elevations will be of rough cast relieved by coloured bricks with tiled or slated roofs.
