Christopher Phillips Mead
Son of John Phillips Mead and Maud Helen Kate Mead née Church of Park Road, Teddington.
Born 10th May 1888 at Kensington, Middlesex
Educated at Charterhouse School (Godalming, Surrey), where he was in both the football and cricket teams. Admitted as solicitor in 1913, he worked at the firm of Mead & Co with his father.
Obtained a commission as 2nd Lieutenant with 4th Battn, East Surrey Regiment in August 1914. He was sent to Devonport, and left for France in early May 1915 attached to the 2nd Battalion.
He was reported wounded with a non-serious wound in July 1915, but on 28th September 1915, whilst leading a bombing party of "A" Company, he was hit by a German bomb and was killed instantaneously.
Following his death, and that of his brother, Geoffrey Phillips Mead, their mother Mrs Maud Mead was a moving force behind the idea to build both a war memorial and a war memorial hospital in Teddington.
