"Cheese Shop", Station Road

Road: Station Road, Teddington

Property: Cheese Shop

This small brick building was the office of Hall's Coalyard, and later the office for Comfort's coal company. This went back to the purchase of the land from the Manor Estate by L&SWR. A side track used to go right into the yard for the delivery of coal; it was incorporated into the development of the former Teddington Coal Yard as the Teddington Business Centre in the early 1980s. It is constructed in red brick with round headed doors and windows, decorative brickwork at the eaves and a decorative panel and courses of terra cotta work, plus striking rendered parapets surmounted on the front by an ogee shaped pediment. As it is set at the back of the pavement it is a very noticeable feature in Station Road and contributes to the streetscene.
