William Lionel Bailey

Son of Arthur John Bailey and Frances Bailey née Hudson of 2 Christchurch Avenue, Teddington

Born about March 1895 at Teddington and educated at Hampton School.

Enlisted at London, whilst living at Teddington.

Listed on The Roll of Local Patriots, Surrey Comet 24 Oct 1914.

Private (510488) with 14th (County of London) Battn., London Scottish Regiment.

Killed in action in France on 1st July 1916, age 21

"W.L. Bailey was in the Old Bond Street branch of the London, City and Midland. When war was declared he enlisted in the London Scottish, and at the completion of his training went to France in April 1915. He had been in the fighting line for over a year, and in July last was reported wounded and missing, this report being supplemented by another to the effect that he had been killed in action" (The Lion, Hampton School. Midsummer 1916, p.3)

Buried at Gommecourt British Cemetery No. 2, Hébuterne, Pas-de-Calais, France (Grave/Memorial II.D.21)
