• Teddington Theatre Club wins the jackpot!

• Teddington Theatre Club wins the jackpot!

Teddington Theatre Club (TTC), for many years a corporate member of the Teddington Society, has made history by being the first-ever jackpot winner in the Get Lucky Local lottery – scooping a prize of £25,000!

The winning ticket, with a complete set of matching numbers, was among a batch of 1,700 bought by The Wharf Restaurant in Teddington as part of an initiative with Get Lucky Local, whereby diners donated £1 to their bill throughout June and the restaurant matched the donation. And if £25,000 weren’t enough, the Club received another £850 from its share of revenue of the tickets… and another £25 cash prize from a further winning ticket. So the grand total was £25,883.

“This is absolutely amazing” declared a delighted Cath Messum, TTC chair. “We’ve won the lottery after months of worrying during the pandemic. We’ve recently taken the brave step of undertaking some much-needed refurbishment in readiness for the theatre reopening, so this win comes at exactly the right time for us.

“This really demonstrates how a local community initiative can make a significant difference. We must thank customers of the Wharf restaurant and the management for their fantastic support.”

The owner of The Wharf, Barbara Spain, said, “It’s a great privilege to be part of this imaginative community scheme and to make a positive impact in this way. Our customers have shown great loyalty to our business during a very difficult time, but they also recognise the challenges local community groups and charities have faced.” The restaurant also helped raise £800 for the Hearts of Teddlothians local football club, and for July, the community cause partner is Teddington Cricket Club.

• The Get Lucky Local lottery was launched last November. It’s a weekly lottery which raises thousands of pounds a year for good causes across Richmond borough, with 58 community projects now signed up.
