Sell-out performances in aid of charity – with more to come!

We’re delighted to report that our two recent opera evenings at the unique Normansfield Theatre in Teddington were an unqualified success.

Both events – one celebrating the opera Carmen and the other an evening of operatic highlights – were sell-out performances and raised a total of £2,167.48, which has been distributed as follows:

• £508.24 (proceeds from the Carmen concert on 15th September) to Dress for Success; and
• £1,259.24 to the Friends of Princess Alice Hospice and £400 to the Downs Syndrome Association (joint proceeds from the Opera Classics evening on 1st November).

In addition, a further £221.70 was raised for the Hospice by way of a raffle.

The evenings were a ‘first’ for the Teddington Society – “and they were a delight” said our Chairman, Sheena Harold. “So much so that more musical events are being planned for 2019. We are hugely indebted to Diana Gillespie and her impressive skills for organising everything.”

Already confirmed for next year is a piano recital by Simone Alessandro Tavoni at the Landmark Arts Centre on 11th May; and a performance of Verdi’s ever-popular La Traviata at the Normansfield Theatre on 17th May.

Tavoni is an international concert pianist who performs across Europe. He graduated with a music BA from the Conservatorio Giacomo Puccini of La Spezia when he was 18, and won a place in the BBC Pathway scheme in 2015, a collaboration for music students between the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Royal College of Music. His performance at the Landmark will be in aid of the Shooting Star Chase Hospice.

La Traviata will be performed by the Glass Ceiling Orchestra and Singers under conductor Sonia Ben Santamaria, making a welcome return visit to the Normansfield. The evening will be in aid of the Princess Alice Hospice and Down’s Syndrome Association.

Details of bookings and times will be announced shortly. Watch for further updates.
